FAQ
Accounts. Ratings. Privacy. The essentials.
Do I need an account?
No. Guest ratings are saved using a private browser cookie and the database. Clearing that cookie can remove access. Create an account to use the same library on different devices.
What happens when I sign up?
Your guest ratings merge into your account. Sign in with your username or email and password. Usernames are case-insensitive; passwords are case-sensitive.
What makes a strong password?
Use a unique passphrase between 15 and 128 characters. Avoid your username and predictable passwords. A password manager can generate and store one for you.
How do I recover my account?
Save the recovery key shown during signup. You can use it once to reset your password; a replacement key is then issued. Password changes and recovery sign out existing sessions. Email addresses are not verified, so an email address alone cannot recover an account.
Are my ratings and notes public?
Profiles start private. Profile settings control who can see ratings, notes and activity. A song can have its own privacy override. Friendship never overrides a private setting. Public information can be copied by visitors.
Why is an artist with more ratings ranked higher?
Artist and genre ordering consider both your average score and the number of rated songs. A small sample is weighted toward a neutral score. The displayed number is always your actual average.
How does discovery work?
New listeners see more familiar artists. Ratings, genres and starred artists shape later picks, with room for new discoveries and occasional friend recommendations. Skip, change genre or reset the algorithm at any time. Resetting does not delete your ratings.
Will I see the same song again?
Discovery filters songs already heard, skipped or rated when their recording identity is recognized. Alternate releases and incomplete provider metadata can sometimes make the same recording look different. Back and search still let you revisit a song deliberately.
Can I add songs from other services?
Search Apple’s catalog or paste a supported Apple Music, Spotify or SoundCloud track link. You can also enter a title and artist manually. Audio availability varies by provider, location and account; manual entries may have no audio.
Why does audio need a tap?
Browsers may block autoplay until you interact. Some providers require their own player or an account. You can still rate a song when no preview is available. We do not supply downloads or bypass provider restrictions.
How do profiles and friends work?
Find a public profile, send a request and wait for acceptance. You can compare visible ratings, send songs and add recommendations to your queue. Removing or blocking a user revokes friend access without deleting either person’s ratings.
Can I save or delete my data?
Use Data & backup to download your library. Account settings let you sign out all devices or permanently delete your account after confirming your password. Keep exports private: they contain your notes and preferences.
Will you email me?
Registration does not automatically subscribe you to updates. Optional updates can be enabled or disabled in Account. Your email address is never shown on your public profile.
How do I report a problem?
Email support@validtaste.com with the affected page or track and a short description. Do not send your password, recovery key or session information.
